Regular Admission - $8.75 Students - $5.25 MAC Members $5.00
Speaker: Howard H. Whiteman, Professor of Biological Sciences and Director of Watershed Studies Institute (evolutionary and behavioral ecology, conservation biology) Murray State University. Topic: Tackling the idea that humans respond to major disasters (Katrina, Fukishima, even 9-11), not subtle one(like global climate change & biodiversity loss).
A paleoclimatologist, Professor Jack Hall, discovers that due to global warming, the polar ice caps are melting, which is lowering ocean temperatures. This triggers a massive climate shift which causes many natural disasters and eventually a new ice age. Too late everyone realizes this, and as they try to evacuate to the warmer south, for half of the northern USA, and Canada, it's already too cold to go outside. Meanwhile, Jack's son, Sam, is in Manhattan on a trip with some friends. Jack heads north to try and rescue his son, but the cold is a powerful adversary.

Into the Abyss
Directed by Werner Herzog Presented in Hi-Definition
Legendary filmmaker Werner Herzog (CAVE OF FORGOTTEN DREAMS, GRIZZLY MAN) returns with INTO THE ABYSS: A TALE OF DEATH, A TALE OF LIFE, a riveting examination of a horrible crime which probes the human psyche to explore why people kill--and why the state kills. In intimate conversations with those involved, including 28-year-old death row inmate Michael Perry (who was scheduled to die eight days after his interview with Herzog), the filmmaker achieves what he describes as "a gaze into the abyss of the human soul." As he's so often done before, Herzog's investigation unveils layers of humanity, making an enlightening trip out of ominous territory
